The National Workshop of the Catholic Historians of India held in Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram, Bengaluru from 24 to 25 July, 2015  at the initiatives of Rev.Dr. Francis Thonippara CMI and Rev.Dr. Sunny Maniakkunnel OCD and chaired   by Rev.Dr. Bernard Ardura OPrem, President of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Sciences, Holy See, Vatican  stressed the importance of forming an Association of Catholic Historians of India as a Registered Trust, especially in the context of the changing socio- politico- religious scenario of India. The participants of the workshop unanimously elected Professor Dr. K.S.Mathew as the chairman of the ad hoc committee formed to organise the Association.  He got the  Association  registered as a  Trust with its office in  St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara Archives and Research Centre, Mannanam P.O, Kottayam, Kerala- 686 561 with 9 trustees from all over India as decided in Bengaluru workshop. The Trust was inaugurated by Rev.Dr. Bernard Ardura during the International Seminar on St Thomas Christians through the Ages held at Mannanam in January 2018 attended by His Beatitude George Cardinal Alencherry, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church and His Grace Mar Joseph Perumthottam, Archbishop of Changanāssēry, Kerala, India

Primary Objectives

i. To promote Research in history, to collect, preserve, edit and bring out documents in the form of monographs or occasional papers, journals and the proceedings of the seminars conducted by the Association from time to time.
ii. To conduct teaching and researches at national levels, to arrange occasional lectures and to organize courses in research methodology.
iii. To arrange training in tool languages for research such as Syriac, Latin, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Malayalam, and scripts like Vatteluthu, Koleluthu, Modi, Karoshtietc.
iv. To provide hospitality during the period of research and publications.
v. To organise seminars, workshops and symposia at local, regional national and international levels.
vi. To conscientise the public about the necessity of preserving and maintaining rare manuscripts and documents etc.
vii. To arrange a research Library, reading Room and Archives.
viii. To collect, preserve and catalogue rare documents in the form of cadjan leaves, books, material evidences etc.
